Howard J. Sachs, MD is Associate Professor of Medicine. In 2010, he was recruited to develop a course at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He was given 12 days in March to integrate the basic science curriculum into a teaching product that would demonstrate to medical students how the basic sciences are used in clinical problem solving. The students had no interest in this notion; they would be taking Step One in six weeks. The product was born.
Dr. Sachs is an award-winning medical educator. He has practiced internal medicine since 1985 and is regularly listed in Best Doctors in America. His experience in clinical care and teaching at all levels have contributed to the success and uniqueness of this educational product. The teaching paradigm includes:
Develop a course through the eyes of an Internist, that is filtered through the lens of the NBME, and integrated across Organ Systems and Subdivisions (such as pharm, micro, etc.)
His interest in this topic purely derives from his belief that there must be a better and more honest way to prepare students.
